Variety Information

VarEditNL
Color : Blue
Bloom Size Details: floral spikes vary in size and length
Lengths available: generally around 30cm, but available longer
Scented: Yes
General Comments: Fresh cut Hyacinth is shipped with closed blooms, but it opens remarkably well in water. In fact, much like tulips, cut Hyacinth blooms will continue to grow somewhat as they hydrate. Don’t cut the base stems! Hyacinths are cut in a special way by a special machine and shipped with a partial bulb section still attached to the stem called the basal plate, which is essential for good, long vase life. They will last up to a week with proper care!

Grower and Breeder Information

Though many novelty flowers can be grown locally by specialized horticulturists, not all flower crops can grow anywhere. Some regions with particular microclimates lend themselves well to specialization in novelty commercial flower production such as California, Peru, Holland, Israël, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

In North America, flowers considered Novelty flowers:
  • typically require special or difficult production conditions which can be tricky to replicate.
  • can have scant productivity which can drive up end costs
  • can have short, erratic field growing cycles
  • are best suited for quick short travel as opposed to flying or trucking
