  • Look for new colours and varieties.
  • The main commercial sunflower varieties on the market are Sunbright (black center) , Sunrich (yellow center) and Sunbeam ( green center)
  • Sunflowers tint well and tinted red have become widely available and popular on a year round basis.
  • Interesting bi-color ( 2-tone) varities are usually produced for the fall season. The most popular of these include Firewalker, Ring of Fire and Mahogany.
  • Good quality sunflowers have clean or no foliage.

Grading Information

  • Graded by diameter of center or disc with most ranging between 3 and 5 cm and stem length.
  • Bunched by 5 or 10 stems.
  • Minimum stem length 60cm.
  • Sunflower foliage can be prone to damage, poor foliage should be stripped.

Grower and Breeder Information

  • Many new interesting F1 hybrid pollenless varieties are being bred for commercial cut flower production.
  • Should be shipped in "cup" stage with blooms showing colour but not open or blooms will be damaged in transit.
  • Individually netting blooms is the common way to ship Sunflowers over long distances to avoid damage.
